Mon Fish Curry with Lotus-stem 

Mon fish curry with lotus-stem is another Mon traditional curry. Marian fruit is one of a main ingredient used to cook Mon curry. But if you do not have marian, you can used tamarind for sour taste. Lotus-stem can also used to make soup and it make this fish curry very different than normal curry.


Ingredients
Lotus stem - 6
Fish - 250 g
Onion - 2
Green chilli - 20
Preserved fish paste - 1/2 tablespoon
Salt - 1 teaspoon
Chicken powder - 1 teaspoon
Marian fruit - 4
Parsley - a few

The following is the instruction of how to cook step by step in English
  1. Peel the thin layers from the stems and plunk flowers out from the stems. Rinse stems and chop them into 3inches pieces.
  2. Clean the fish and chop them into chunks. Season them with turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Pound onion and green chilli together.
  4. Put the stems, the chunks of fish, the preserved fish paste, the pounded onions with green chilli, the crushed marian fruits into one bowl with 3 Chinese spoons of oil. Mix everything thoroughly and boil the mixture in one soup bowl of water.
  5. Heat it until it boils and, check whether the fish and the stems are well cooked.
  6. When the fish and the stems are cooked, add more water for desired amount. Taste it and fix the flavour by adding salt, chicken powder and the marian fruits. Add parsley finally.
