Heavy rains, winds and hailstones struck some townships in Sagaing and Waimaw Township in Kachin State destroying houses, schools and religious buildings as well as public infrastructure such as lamp posts.
Around 9pm of February 16th, over 20 houses were destroyed due to the strong wind hit in Wah Khone village, Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region.
Moreover, a house collapsed and 38 houses were damaged by heavy winds in Depayin Township, Shwebo District, Sagaing Region, yesterday evening.
“At present, we are collecting information about the damages. I already received some information from Township Administrative Department. The news stated that a house collapsed and 38 houses were damaged in 11 villages. Moreover, roofs of the school were blown off in Thetyettaw village, Depayin Township,” said MP Moe Min Win.
Strong gales accompanied by untimely heavy rain and hailstones struck some townships in Sagaing Region, over 8pm of February 16th.
“Hailstones had rained down in Sankar village in Waimaw Township, Kachin State, for about a half hour. It is amost the size of a fist. Watermelons broke and banana plantations were damaged. The road is covered with hailstones,” said MP Khaw Mar Du from Kachin State.
