Pork Ribs with Winter Melon Soup

Although Myanmar people used more oil then western countries, this dish used less oil than usual. You can serve this dish as a soup or can also eat as a main dish with rice. Pork ribs with sweet winter melon cook in balance to get incredible flavor.


Pork rib - 500 g
Winter melon - 500 g
Garlic - 1
Ginger - about 1 inch
Oil - 2 tablespoon
Salt - a little
Chicken powder - a little
Chilli powdeer - a little
Water - some
Light soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
The following is the instruction of how to cook step by step in English
  1. Chop the ribs into chunks and rinse them.
  2. Boil the ribs in boiling water for 3 minutes. It is to get rid of the smell and rinse them after 3 minutes of boiling.
  3. Rinse winter melon and peel it. Cut them into pieces.
  4. Pound garlic and ginger together.
  5. Pan-fry pounded garlic and ginger.
  6. Wait for them to be slightly cooked and add ribs. Add water and let it boiled with closed lid until it becomes tender.
  7. When the ribs are tender enough, add taros, salt, light soy sauce and chicken powder. Add water for soup. Make sure, it is not too watery and bland.
  8. When it is boiling, check on taros. It is ready and you may adjust the flavour if they are tender.
  9. Add pepper at last.
