The infection risk for COVID-19 becomes higher as the country sees the massive inflows of returnees from Thailand, said Dr. Myint Htwe, Union Minister for Health and Sports at a work coordination meeting of the COVID-19 Prevention and Control Central Committee, in Nay Pyi Taw on 22 March.

It is impossible for the ministry to carry out facility quarantine due to the massive influx of Myanmar nationals from Thailand. They must be put under home-quarantine.

All returnees must abide by the instructions issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports. They must stay in their homes for 14 days. Only then, the ministry can get information and give rapid treatment when someone is infected with the virus. Thanks to the 14-day home quarantine, the spreading of virus to their parents, relatives, and neighbors can be prevented and controlled effectively, the ministry’s statement.

All returnees must report their health conditions daily to the relevant health departments without fail.

In cooperation with the public, staff from the Health Department and the General Administration Department will supervise whether the returnees follows the ministry’s instructions, the minister said.

The ministry has coordinated with officials from the hoteliers’ association to use some hotels for quarantine.
