Myanmar Airways International continued its regional expansion last week with the launch of a direct service between Yangon and Guanzhou in southern China.
The airline will fly the route twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, using an Airbus A-320 that can accommodate 160 passengers.
The inaugural flight between Yangon and Guangzhou took off on March 3, a spokesperson from the airline said.
Flights depart Yangon at 8.45 am and arrive in Guangzhou at 1.20 pm, while the return flight leaves Guangzhou at 2.15 pm.
Daw Aye Mra Tha, the airline’s assistant marketing manger, said tickets would be sold through authorized travel and ticketing agents.
She said the airline would add extra charter flights between the cities for this month’s gem emporium in Nay Pyi Taw.
“During the gem emporium we will operate not only scheduled flights but also additional charter flights between  Yangon and Guangzhou. At that time, there will be from six to nine charter flights a week,” Daw Aye Mra Tha said.
MAI is the second airline to operate between Yangon and Guangzhou. China Southern Airlines offers scheduled  flights each Wednesday and Saturday between the two cities.
The new Guangzhou service follows hot on the heels of the launch of flights between Yangon and Siem Reap in Cambodia on February 23. The company says it plans to add flights to Jakarta and News. Delhi  soon and other regional destinations, such as Tokyo, Seoul, Dubai, Doha and Bali, further down the line.
