Over 800-yr-old Tanintharyi Tsp. "Dragon Boat Festival" was held at the Tanin-Tharyi River crowdedly.
"The festival was led by 93-year-old Sayardaw U Pyinyar Deva from Chaung Gyi Monastery in Tanintharyi Township as Chaung Gyi Kahtein Festival" and 117 Monasteries Kahtein Festival were attended.
"Dragon Boat Festival in various designs was traditionally held just like the past times of hundreds of Boats Parade."
"Later at Donation Ceremonies, Dragon Boat Festivals were mostly held annual."
"This year it was held on 5th waning day of Thadi Kyut moon with four Dragon Boats," said Ko Than Soe Win from Lad Group arrangement-maker.
"Dragon Boat Festival is Tanintharyi Custom. In the festival there included Mya Lone Naung, Mya Gyi Aung, Sein Than Thwe, Yan Gyi Aung Dragon Boats which were made of one only long.
The biggest Boat was 100 ft long capable for over 40 persons.
"According to History Record, the festival has already been held since Myanmar Year 515 which ancient Kings marched as a Parade along the Tanintharyi River."
"As years later, Dragon Boats became rare. In the river while rowing the Dagon Boat, Traditional songs were sung," he explained.
