Authorities allowed 48-ton trucks on Goktwin Bailey Bridge on Mandalay-Lashio-Muse Union Road from September 8 as they repaired the old bridge which was damaged by mine attack on August 15, sources said.
Transportation was stopped for five days and border trade routes are halted.
Ministry of Construction built the bridge which has 210 feet in length and allowed small vehicles on August 20.
“The 48-tons trucks are allowed now and before that, 36-tons trucks are allowed,” said Thet Swe from Oriental Highway Company.
“We have to reduce the cargo weight before we reached Kyaukme tollgate if we came from Muse. Trucks came from Mandalay have to reduce their cargo at Naungcho. It is wasting our time and money. Now the situation is easier,” said driver Ko Nay.
Cargo trucks and container trucks are now crossing the bridge to go to Muse 105-mile border trade zone.
