MAGWAY-Before Union Day and General Aung San’s Birthday, many people visited General Aung San’s house situated in Natmauk Township, Magway Region, since the early February.

The Ministry of Culture opened the Bogyoke Aung San’s house in Natmauk Township as a museum whose opening hours are 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM and closed on Monday and gazetted holidays.

As the current time in Magway Region is the famous Mann Shwe Sett Taw Pagoda festival period, it was timed to coincide with the Union Day and Bogyoke Aung San’s Birthday.

So, the region is very crowded with the visitors coming from the entire Myanmar.

“The time is the pagoda festival period as well as there are many gazette holidays. So, the resident museum is crowded with visitors. There were over 1,000 visitors on February 8th. On February 13th, we have to open the residence museum regularly. However, the special programs were performed in the compound of Bogyoke resident house on Martyrs’ Day,” said an unidentified officer from Bogyoke Aung San’s museum.

Bogyoke Aung San residence museum in Natmauk Township, is dedicated to his childhood and family memorabilia.

He stayed at his house until 1929. Later, the Ministry of Culture conserved the residence house as Aung Myint Thein donated the museum on July 16th, 1973. However, the house was burnt down on April 8th, 1974 and then the construction department in Natmauk Township re-built the house as an original style in 1975.

Books, paintings and photographs, awards, handwritten correspondence and personal mementos are displayed at the residence museum.

The number of visitors to the museum had reached a record high on the Bogyoke Aung San Birthday which falls on February 13th. Moreover, the visitors come from various regions near and far and they are reportedly served with free refreshment.

The most attractive thing in the museum is the silicon statue of Bogyoke Aung San in a sitting posture reading a book.
