A total of 37 farmers from Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region, staged a protest on June 9, calling for the return of confiscated farmlands.

They held a protest march in accord with the protest permit from the township police station. They made the five-point demand.

Myint Maung, a protest leader said: “We held a protest march as the army confiscated lands owned by 40 farmers. We demand the return of confiscated lands. The confiscated land scrutinizing committee met only one out of 40 farmers. The committee submitted fraudulent reports to the above without checking the situation on the ground. The regional officials closed the complaints.”

No-6006 Tank Battalion confiscated 1244.12 acre of farmlands owned by farmers in No.3 ward in Kantbalu Township, in 2004-2005, said Myint Maung.
