War refugees staying at refugee camps in Rakhine State need food supplies as WFP stopped food supplies in the state, sources said.
The state government ordered the donors to stop food supplies and the refugees are struggling to find their food supplies.
“We cannot eat as rice is our main food supply. Now the state government ordered the donors to stop rice supply. We are staying at the refugee camps as we are worried about our safety. We may be starved to death,” said a Mro ethnic from Wartaung refugee camp.
However, they informed about it to the state government. The state government can provide rice supply at the end of this month. More than 1,000 war refugees from 220 family households are taking shelter at the refugee camp, said Kansaute village administrator.
More than 500 refugees from a monastery in the village are faced shortage of rice supply and they need help from the state government, said the monk.
“The WFP provided rice supply in previous months and welfare associations also donated rice. Now it is rainy season and the WFP stopped rice supply. We have other food supplies but rice is our main food supply. They cannot find job here,” said the monk.
War refugees from Yathedaung, Buthidaung, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U and Minbya townships are facing difficulty due to shortage of rice supply.
