Tar-La-Baw (Kayin Traditional Curry) 

This dish is a special one. One of a traditional cooking of Kayin race, vegetable soup (Ta La Baw) is very famous and represent Kayin race. This dish is not easily found in restaurant and can’t easily get. But don’t worry Kayin people live all part of Myanmar.

Oinion - 1
Garlic - 3
Chilli - a few
Oil - 2 tablespoon
Potato - 2
Egg Plant - 2
Lady Finger - 5
Long Beam - 10
Pumpkin - 1/4
Gourd - 1/4
Fermented Bamboo Shoot - 250 g
Drumstick - 2
Tamarind Juice - a few
Jack Fruit - 1/4
Salt - 2 teasp

The following is the instruction of how to cook step by step in English
  1. Prepare vegetables by rinsing and chopping them into medium size as shown in the pictures above.
  2. Peel garlics and onions and chop them into thin pieces. Panfry them using preheated oil.
  3. When they are fairly cooked, add crushed grilled grains of rice and stir. After that, add small amount of water.
  4. When it becomes thick and creamy, add vegetables except long beans, lady fingers, and egg plants. Add salt and chicken powder and, then stir.
  5. Add water to the level that is above the ingredients inside. When the vegetables become tender, add long beans, lady fingers and egg plants.
  6. When the soup is boiling and evaporating, check if the vegetables are cooked and then add small amount of water.
  7. When they are cooked and tender, drumstick leaves and kyat-tha-hinn leaves.
  8. The curry will be ready after two more minutes of boiling. If you like it spicy and sour, you may add tamarind juice and crushed dry chilli powder.
